I started ekwede after I was laid off from an agency job. I knew that my skills were not being utilized to their fullest so I decided to do something about it. ekwede is the phonetical spelling of equity...as in brand equity. I knew full well that if I named my company Equity that everyone would think that I was a financial advisor - which I am...but for brand futures...nothing more.
So ekwede was created to bring brand personalities to companies across the country that didn't know, or understand where to turn. My mission is simple, create meaningful expressions of a company's brand that resonates with your intended audience. It sounds simple, but it takes the right approach. I learned from the best at Walt Disney World and I have applied what I learned and expounded upon it ever since.
As for myself, I am always thinking of what can be better. I run to podcasts about marketing or creating great brands (yes, I am that kind of dork). Not only have I learned valuable business lessons from working at a great company like Energizer, but I also run several businesses where I hone different skills that make be better as a leader and a brander everyday. I run a vacation rental in Michigan as well as a property management company in St. Louis. So, I guess real estate is a pretty significant hobby of mine.
Finally, here's why you need to invest in a branding strategist. We all sell products and services...and those products and services will all be knocked off some day, or someone will create a better option. What makes companies survive in the long haul is their emotional connection to their audience. This is not an attempt to connect with everyone...but understanding who wants or needs what you offer and connecting with them. There are many products and services that we all consume that are not the best, but we buy them because of the brand and the brand promise. I have experience in helping companies find their brand and communicating it effectively.
